Khemisa Bulga

Khemisa , meaning 5 in Arabic, used as a protection from the evil eye in folkloric Egyptian heritage as seen through the artist Hassan El Sharq paintings from Upper Egypt. In this design we utilize handwoven fabric from Akhmim, Sohag, combined with sheep and camel leather outsole with hand-stitch finish with a new and improved cushion that is elevated and inclined to give you the outmost comfort in every step.

Two Women Making Shoes in Egypt

The influx of fast fashion in the market is pushing more traditional shoe workshops to close, forcing master artisans in this craft to switch careers.

We aim to revive this sector of traditional footwear workshops in historic Cairo by using the oldest techniques in shoe-making to make vibrant, modern slippers that still hold the spirit of Egyptian heritage with an edge.

Through adopting slow-fashion principles, we hope to make an impact in the industry one Bulga at a time, while providing jobs to women and marginalized artisans all over Egypt.
